Humans on Mars: Genius or Insanity?
Elon Musk plans to send humanity to the stars, starting with the colonization of Mars. Humanity will eventually be annihilated, and one of the possible causes is planetary disaster. This is inevitable, but we can extend humanity’s lifespan by expanding our reach to other planets.
His current schedule, which even he admits may be too ambitious, focuses on several unmanned “Red Dragon” missions from 2018 to 2022, which are designed to test the space travel technology, as well as investigate Mars further. The next missions are designed to take people to Mars, as well as send supplies to begin colonization.
The next possible phase of his plan, which does not have a set date, is to begin terraforming by creating two constant nuclear pulses, or “mini suns” at the two poles of Mars' to artificially induce global warming, at least until the crystallized CO2 on the planet evaporates and marks the beginning of an atmosphere.
Elon Musk is definitely a very innovative entrepreneur, however, there are still many unrealistic or missing pieces to his plan. We hope Elon Musk’s plan will be realized, but in the meantime, we’ll be explaining the problems in a future blog post.
